It is estimated that more than 25 percent of all addresses processed contain errors that result in misdirected and undeliverable mail. Many organizations use address validation software to match customer records against United States Postal Service® (USPS®) data to identify which addresses are correct and which contain errors.

Improving the quality of customer data to the level of accuracy required for postal discounts enables organizations to mail more efficiently. It also strengthens Customer Relationship Management (CRM) initiatives by maximizing the number of mailed communications that actually reach the intended recipients and reducing the number of duplicate mailings. The more sophisticated address validation products are also able to correct address errors and add missing fields automatically, based on USPS information.
